Lip fillers are dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. They work by being injected into the lip border, lip body and surrounding structures of the lip to give an increased volume and contour of the lips. Lips can be injected using different techniques to achieve a variety of results depending on the desired outcomes of the patient. 

You may wish to add volume to a smaller lip to get a bigger and bolder lip, this is called beautification. You may wish to correct an asymmetry or feature that is concerning to you, this is called correction. Correction may be used to make the upper or lower lip larger to give the correct ratio of natural beauty. You may only want a subtle enhancement, this is called transformation and can be done while keeping the natural look. You may wish to restore lost volume to an ageing lip this is called positive ageing.

The ageing lip loses volume and recedes into the face, peri-oral lines can become more apparent, the edges of lips droop, the lip border flattens and lengthens and you lose definition of the cupids bow and philtral columns. Generally the upper lip has a greater volume loss of the deep fat pad while the lower lip fat pad is much better preserved. This can all be corrected with dermal lip fillers while maintaining a natural and untreated look.

During your consultation we will assess your lips at rest and during animation, smiling and puckering. We will also look at the lip ratio and width as well as projection and any asymmetry in the lips left to right. We will then take photographs and discuss your desired outcomes. A topical anaesthetic is used to numb the lips. The lips are then thoroughly cleaned before injections will commence. The whole treatment takes less than 15 minutes with breaks wherever needed to ensure the comfort of the patient. 

It is important to ensure there are no events coming up within a few weeks of treatment as there is likely to be some swelling and possible bruising due to the lips being a highly vascular area of the face. 

Lips fillers can range between $400-450 per ml of treatment depending on the outcome you wish to achieve, as this will determine the type of filler used in treatment.
